Our Curriculum
Modern Foreign Languages
Modern Foreign Languages are a compulsory part of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum and at our school we deliver French to children in Years 3 to 6. At present we do not have any adults who are specialists in teaching another language so we use the Kapow Scheme of Work which has been designed by experts in language teaching.
There are 5 main strands:
- Phonics
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- language comprehension skills (listening and reading)
- Language production skills (speaking and writing)
These strands are referred to as pillars and are used to help children communicate in French. Within each of these strands, the scheme of work promotes cultural awareness of France and the French-speaking world.
